Healthy organizations are built on trust, clarity, and shared purpose. Our Board Alignment & Consulting work is designed to create space for thoughtful reflection and meaningful alignment between the Executive Director and Board. Over the course of up to a year, we engage leadership in a structured yet collaborative process—beginning with individual conversations, a carefully designed board survey, and ongoing dialogue with members of the strategic planning committee. When appropriate, we participate in board meetings to introduce insights and guide discussion in a way that builds understanding to strengthen mission alignment.
From this work, a small number of clear priorities typically emerge—often related to mission and program focus, financial stewardship, fundraising approach, and the development and responsibilities of the board itself. We present these outcomes to leadership and remain engaged through follow-up sessions to ensure alignment is not just discussed, but lived.
At the center of this engagement is a simple but essential question: are you fully aligned around your mission? We explore how the mission is defined and articulated, whom you serve, and whether current programs and strategies reflect that commitment. We consider how board members understand the mission—what they believed they were supporting when they joined—and how consistently it is communicated across the organization. The goal is not reinvention, but clarity: a shared understanding that strengthens governance, deepens commitment, and positions the organization for sustained impact.
